only once did they cancel classes when I was in college and it was because the teachers couldnt get there...my boyfriend and I at that time walked down campus (I usually drove)...we got down to the college center...and saw the announcement that classes were canceled...we ate lunch and walked back up campus (yes in the snow thru what they called the slough...gross and disgusting even when snowed over)....got my exercise that day!

I do remember driving back the good ole quad cities in the middle of a blizzard (86?) was going a wee bit toooo fast down the hill to the stop light (ok 15mph was too fast)...and I was going to make a right hand turn...well I wound up the the oncoming lane and there was a van ...lucky for me he stopped well in advance and I was able to finish my turn without hitting anyone

...or anything (came dammn close to the light pole)...thats what I get for driving a wee little crx in a snowstorm!

Ya that was the first time they had ever cancelled classes at my university. New president and everything. Then I think they cancelled at least one day for the next 2 years before my last year. Then they didn't cancel any. Meh.

I spun out when I was in HS. Went to go to into the parking lot and it was real icy. Was probably doing 10 mph, apparently was still to fast. Wheels hit some ice, car spun in a full circle, I got it under control and drove to the next turn in and turned in fine. Got lucky no body was coming to say the least.

I remember when I was first taking drivers ed--many MANY years ago...my first day behind the wheel was the 26th of december...right after a really good ice storm! talk about trial by fire!!! In order to stop the car I had to almost begin braking at the previous corner! (and then sometimes that didnt work either)....still to this day I brake too soon

my stupid craaapy high school did NOT offer drivers ed--we had to take it from a public high school (and I had to go 3 school districts over to do the driving part!)...so yeah, we had drivers ed at a different school, sims at another and the driving was done thru a 3rd...
(remember I didnt go to a regular public school or even a good private one).

doubt they offer it now 30 years later .....when my sister was there they didnt even have the cross school teaching, she took it from a private company! (guess the heretics I went to school with didnt care how their kids got their licenses....or more likely since most were filthy rich they didnt care that they had to pay a private school for it)

Bummer, that doesn't sound like fun at all. I forgot you didn't go to a public school.

Some people I know still take it from a private company cause then they can get it sooner than what they normally would. Whatever. I waited for about a month after I passed drivers ed to get mine.

I thought they used reins in your day and all you had to say was say whoa, of course in my day the hadn't invented the wheel yet. You know it's hot in our area when Nantucket Island is in the 90's and the ocean temperature is still in the high 50's to low 60's.

we had moved a wee bit past the horse, but still all cars were black and no such thing as a/c, radio, or cruise control! (and all cars had a T in their names!)

saw the big front moving thru the east coast--knocked out the FAA control center too...soooooo glad I dont fly anymore--sounds like its going to be a few days before they get it back up and running correctly again.

in other news:
ants.....usually we get one or two in the spring, this year...dozens! and they arent in the kitchen at all

...but near the electronics (which happens to be near the fireplace that has never been used)....been sending them to a watery grave, but really wish I knew where they were coming from and why.

You method of killing them is very ironic if:

Ants need water to survive and if they can't find it outside, they'll move into the house looking for it. It is common during times of drought for ants to be found around water faucets, gathering water to take back to their nests. Standing water in the house, like that found in bathrooms, laundry rooms and basements, is a beacon to thirsty ants.

We had big storms in the area last night but all we got was the rain which was needed.

only found a few in the bathroom, NONE in the kitchen and we have no faucet outside as we are on the third floor (we flush them away...ants are hard to kill!!)

we have had a few rain storms over the last week...no drought here. Me'thinks that the idiots in the assssociaion may have sprayed someplace and now they are coming inside to get away from it

well off to target to get some ant traps!

Just get ant traps from Lowe's or whatever. Those do a pretty decent job.

Haven't had rain since last Saturday's vicious storm. Supposed to maybe have a storm or two tomorrow. We will see if that happens or not.

well....wont take your advice next time pwnd...drove all the way out to the closest lowes--they have bait..no traps. my ants arent leaving, they just wander around awhile and then die...I need them to get stuck in a trap, not die all around my condo!

strike 2....guess I might as well order the dang things from the online store now.

didnt go to a hardware store, first place was target--which the website for the ant traps said had carried them...and my grocery store didnt have traps either...so I hae 2 kinds of bait 'traps' now--the ants are avoiding them like the plague! (and they did not carry them at all--none of the places I have tried carry traps, only bait)....

aargh!! (and its not your fault)
